Back to the Future

Throw back to a classic, and I think this a pretty perfect movie. I do not feel as if this a nostalgia bias rating, but rather it genuinely is just a great movie. Back to the Future is about a teen, Marty, and his adventure back in time with scientist Doc Brown. Marty meets his young parents and needs to help them get together or else he will cease to exist, while at the same time racing against the clock to return to his own time to save Dr. Brown. I personally loved some of the messages behind it about confidence, courage, the domino effect, and most importantly, when you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything. This movie is a perfect balance of a family film, while also being a hilarious coming of age teen movie. Everything seemed so well planned, down to the costumes, setting, timing, script, and gags. Back to the Future is full of classic stereotypes--- a love triangle with the beautiful girl, the tough bully, and of course the underdog protagonist. The stereotypes give the movie a kind of predictability, not a negative way, but does it in a way that makes you feel content. And even still, Biff (the bully) and Marty ended up being friends in the end, which broke those stereotypes in a way.

Back to the Future is a beloved classic for a reason. Nothing is too overdone, and nothing is too underdone. I give the movie a 9.8/10
