Saltburn

I would like to say I did not watch this of my own volition and as my first R film I would respectfully say I wish I could unwatch it. Not to say I expected anything from this film, but it definitely wasn't what I just had the displeasure of seeing. Saltburn follows the story of a young man named Oliver, who makes friends with extremely wealthy aristocrat Felix at college. Felix invites Oliver to his estate for the summer, Saltburn, where Oliver kills him and his sister. Except, there is so much more to the story, Oliver actually should be in a mental hospital because he is really obsessed with Felix and is just a gross creep in general. There was really no moral or plot for the movie--- other than a hazy "eat the rich" which might've been taken a little too literally, if you ask me.

When I say there was barely a plot or a moral point I mean it. Any moral of the sort was briefly introduced, but never executed all the way. Cinematography wise, this movie was amazing. Colors, saturation, contrast, were all used to the fullest extent any chance it was available. I think Saltburn is one of those movies where most of its reputation comes from the scenes within the movie rather than the actual movie itself. Throughout the duration you can kind of sense that the director, Emerald Fennell, opted to just really let loose and dream up any scene she considered creepy and crazy and insane at the same time and just put in in there.

Overall, this movie was unhinged. There was no clear plot to it, and it was just a jarring movie overall. I give it a 4/10.
