Renfield
To start off, I think this movie is the definition of "mixed opinions". Renfield is the story of count Draculas familiar, Renfield (Nicholas Hoult) and his journey to "finding himself" and breaking free of Dracula's (Nicholas Cage) control. This movie is absolutely littered with comedic lines, which are undoubtedly, extremely funny in my opinion. But story-wise and quality-wise, could've been shot better. The CGI in this movie was almost appalling and really exaggerated, but in a weird way--- I feel works for the movie almost? Like, at times I thought that Chris McKay almost did it over-exaggerated and in a way that looks fake and ridiculous on purpose, and to be honest, it worked really well. The love story between Quincy and Renfield himself I feel, was half baked and could have been explored more in the movie. The storyline as a whole was very shallow, but I can't really complain since it IS categorized as a comedy. The way the fights were structured resembled the kind of style we learned in class where the actions are exaggerated and almost video game like, I can't recall the name but we watched the fight scene for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.
I would provide more of an explanation for the plot of this movie, but there really isn't anything more. Renfield does however break free from Dracula and ends up with Quincy (wow! never saw that one coming..). The comedic factor is something I really liked, I think this director is hilarious. I know he also directed the lego batman movie, which is one of the funniest movies out there, and I don't take criticism! I rate this movie a 6.8/10.
See, I adored this movie. But I might be the only one who did.
